Yes, we know. Motorola hasn’t done what everyone is waiting for a long time. It sadly only bug fixes and such but not the might 2.1 update. This update will basically improve many features and improve call quality, better UI response time, stability enhancements, a handful of minor email tweaks, better audio over headsets, and updated Google apps. Verizon and Motorola are doing this update OTA and will send it out sections to devices. So if you haven’t gotten it, you’ll get it.

Don’t get over excited because this isn’t the long awaited 2.1 update but a firmware update to make the device more stable. From recent experiences it can be inferred the Motorola likes to take a different route, so we’re pretty excited to see what this latest update does for users since it’s promising improved battery life, stability, touchscreen accuracy, widget response, and a reduction in unsightly “Force Close” messages with some other goodies. It also throws in support for WMV and WMA media for good measure and being that the MyTouch slide is lurking around, competition’s about to heat up for this guy, so there’s definitely some pressure to get this particular update bang-on.

As it turns out, Motorola recently uploaded the 2.1 update for Milestone owners in Hong Kong. It’s only officially for users in Hong Kong and Macau for now, but judging by the inclusion of a Dutch language pack in the new firmware, it looks like it’s the same stuff that will shortly be rolling out all across Europe as well. In addition to the live wallpapers, users will also get a new feature called Motorola Car Home a special navigation maybe? We aren’t sure for each nation, but Moto’s Facebook page tells us we’ll see an end to the Milestone’s upgrade saga before March is through. Stay Tuned for more!

Hey! Did you know that the Backflip has been released and there already has been some stories coming up about it already! It seems that Backflips are being shipped without the ability to turn on non-Market installations, meaning that AT&T has effectively locked you into getting all of your content through the walled garden. Add in the Yahoo debacle and the egregious amount of unremovable useless apps they’ve left in ROM. So is the CEO keeping his word like he said here:

Ralph: Well, to be open. (Laughter.) Right? I mean, the whole idea behind Android is that it’s gonna be an open OS, and so I don’t wanna roll an open OS to market that has primarily Google apps on it, and I think that’s gonna happen. I mean, I see a lot of activity, I think it’s got a good future, and I think it makes a lot of sense that the OS is open-source, separate from Google apps that are also very good.

So Motorola looks like there is a new guy in town, Sense Ui. It’s not the first time we’ve heard of a version of Sense finding its way onto Motorola hardware, but developers over on AllDroid have posted a bunch of video and stills claiming to have ported an HTC Desire’s Sense-enabled firmware to Moto’s beast — and what’s more, there’s footage of it running Flash. Bear in mind that the speed at which Flash is running here looks downright painful — and we fully expect official Flash support on the Droid later this year anyhow — but anyone conflicted between the Droid’s muscular lines and HTC’s lovely skin might want to keep an eye on this project. It’s still very early in development, but the most important part of the port has already been finished: it shows the proper Droid logo on startup.

Motorola’s official spec sheet for the Devour reveals that there’ll be a Flash Lite runtime on board likely version 3.1, which offers support for a variety of video codecs and Flash 9 content; oh it’ll also work in the browser. This give the Devour one small leg up on its Droid big brother and matches capabilities that HTC has rolled out in the past on the Hero. Also did you know Devour allegedly uses the same next-gen low-cost smartphone processor from Qualcomm, the MSM7627, as the Pixi? However, palm may not roll out flash for the pixi due to low-end specs. Oh well, better than nothing!
