In a future based around voice and touch, quick messaging is key. And that is exactly why we love what Pana.ma is doing!

Pana.ma, a free iPhone/iTouch app, lets you either send a regular message or a voice message to a friend or an entire group of friends.

The interface is very simple to get used to and the voice quality and message speed is pretty remarkable considering you’re sending each other files.

As you can see on the left, I can either choose to write a message, or record a message, or both!

And of course you can also add a bunch of recipients (who have the app) to the conference.

Why would I use Pana.ma when I have a phone?

Well, not everyone sits by their phones. Instead of waiting for your friend to find time to talk to you, why not send them messages which they can respond to (and playback) whenever they’re available? Of course you could just leave a voicemail, but Pana.ma is great especially for people who can’t always catch their phones (or forget about voice-mails).

How fast is sending voice messages?

We were curious too, so here are a couple tests to give you an idea.

Wi-Fi (12.5 second recording) – 3 seconds to send

3G (12.7 second recording) – 9 seconds to send

Another nice thing about Pana.ma is that it has push notifications (and badges) to alert you when you get a new message.

To sum it up, Pana.ma is an awesome new app aimed mostly for people who enjoy IM and or phone calls.

SimFlecks Rating: 9.8/10 – Pros: Great idea, definitely has a future! Cons: Crashes semi-frequently.

P.S. Pana.ma may be coming to Android soon!
