(UPDATE) Android 2.0.1 is rolling out to T-Mobile Android Users! [Rumor]

(Updates after the jump)

Well its happening! The android rollout has begun. Tmobile is going to be rolling out the 2.0.1 to G1 and Mytouch. A few people reportedly have received the update even on rooted devices. There aren’t many details of what kind of apps are on it or anything like that but we’ll keep it covered!

Will update as more news comes!

Update (1/17): According to this article, a T-Mobile tech support representative said the following:

The Cliq will be getting 2.x.x soon — as for the G1 and MyTouch, they are working with Google to try to see if they can come up with a release for those two phones, so, no date yet, and no ‘Yes, we’ll get it’”

He said that their notes say that once they have determined that they CAN or CANNOT get a suitable release for the G1 and MyTouch, they will be making an announcement for G1/MyTouch owners indicating such and how to proceed. But at this time, they are still working with Google to come up with a suitable release and are doing what they can to try to ensure (if a suitable release is possible) that we will see something.

Update (1/18):

Three new pieces of information:

1. This one was posted on a forum at xda-developers.com:

When I went in to change my plan last week and check my upgrade credit it was in mid morning and I was the only customer so I was able to sit down with the re for a while talking about phones and he showed me the fender Mytouch demoo.. blah blah.. Anyway.. When we were talking about if I should wait for the fender mytouch or get a CLiq, he mentioned to me that the new updates would be officially out between feb 7th-21st. I asked him what build he said depending on the phone 2.01 and 2.1. He knew I had a G1 and he said that I may be getting 2.1. This guy has been working in the same store for about 4 years so I know hes not some rambling new guys saying whatever I want to hear.

2. Androidspin has reported that:

It has been confirmed that T-Mobile is releasing an Eclair update for the T-Mobile G1.  The update will be at least Android 2.0 but more likely Android 2.0.1 as both versions have already been prepared as OTA updates.  An anonymous source of ours has confirmed that both the Android 2.0 and the Android 2.0.1 are in the hands of some very fortunate people.  Nothing can be released just yet due to Non Disclosure reasons.

And, finally, after chatting with a T-Mobile support representative this morning, I was told that whileWe do not have information on when that update will be available at this time… All Android phones will have the update at some point.” When I asked whether or not they included the G1 and the MyTouch 3G, the representative said: “Yes those phones also.”

Update (1/18 12 PM)

I just got off the phone with a T-Mobile rep. Great news. He said that:

[I’m] Positive they will receive it, not sure when…”

Both phones are going to be getting the 2.0 update, but no date has been set”

If this is true, and G1/MT3G, then everyone who has recently bought a MT3G has an un-updatable phone which is complete BS cause thats a total waste of money. Its like getting a brand new phone and being stuck a an old update then not being able to get the MMS or Camcorder feature.…

    Hello Hollan,
Actually this isn’t b.s. since even Tmobile is saying that there will be an update for the devices. So actually this is all legitimate! But thanks on your opinion. Also keep checking back cause changes are being made!

Honestly, I would not consider posts on public forums as “news”. You have no reputable sources here, just more conjecture that can be found anywhere. “A few people reportedly have received the update” — Who? Where is the follow up or proof? And as nearly everyone knows, rooted devices have had these updates within moments of the SDK hitting the web.

This entire post is nothing but copy and paste with a fair amount of unfounded speculation. Sorry, but maybe you should stick to posting on the Tmo forums.
